Hey guys!
I am so excited! I am going to Boracay, Philippines next week with my Senior class! I am so glad to get out of Singapore for about eleven days! Everything right now in school has been so stressful, but I am glad we are all getting a much deserved break!
Now, as many of you know, diabetes and travelling can be really difficult especially travelling to third world countries.
So, our trip is going to be one week of service to this organisation there, and then four days off at a relaxing trip at a resort!!
For travelling, especially over here in Asia, they stop you at the bag screener and usually ask all about my syringes, insulin, and all that stuff!
I have a letter from my endocrinologist here, and if I show that and I am usually good to go!
AS far as supplies (it's different if you're on the pump), but I take extra of EVERYTHING. You never know what will happen.
My relationship with my school nurse is really good, and I am happy she is going to be coming along to help me.
NOW. the most FRUSTRATING thing about travel for me is the schedule. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE travelling, especially seeing all these beautiful and amazing countries, it's just it can really set my BS into some serious wackiness.
My body is used to eating low carb and healthy foods due to my mom's amazing cooking! :)
Also, not being able to be on my workout regime can really screw me up!
I have some tips here for you guys!
These are some of my tips! What are YOURS?
Below is a picture of where I am going! (JEALOUS?!) x

- Extra syringes
- Extra viles of Insulin
- Extra Levemir
- Granola Bars (packable snacks) --> Juice and that sort of thing is provided where I am going:)
- Teststrips
- Extra Meter (1 trip, my meter broke so I am so thankful I had an extra!)
- A school nurse/someone who knows how to administer the glucagon.
My relationship with my school nurse is really good, and I am happy she is going to be coming along to help me.

- Try and see what restaurants/types of food you'll be eating before hand. This can help you assess your insulin doses.
- (At least for me) realize you may need DOUBLE the amount of insulin normally, or overall take more.
- Test, test, test. You never know what kind of circumstances you'll be in (especially if it's like a service trip), and so make sure you know what your BS is up too.
- Stay away from Sodas and sweets that can give unnecessary highs!
- Try and not eat after 8pm! Personally, eating at night can really screw me up as I become really insulin sensitive, and often have annoying hypos in the night!
- Take your long acting basal at the designated time to ensure better control!
- Realize your BS' won't be perfect, so relax and have some much needed FUN! :D
